Brioche 101

Bristol Ivy Knitting Workshop! 

We are excited to welcome Bristol Ivy to The Workshop Mpls on Sunday April 29!  

An all day knitting workshop event. The day will be divided into two parts. From 9- 12 we will have the class “Introduction to Brioche” followed by an hour lunch (provided with registration) and the afternoon session 1-4 will be “Darn It!” Class descriptions follow.

Introduction to Brioche – 3 hours, limit 12 students
Brioche is an easy stitch that creates a lush, drapey, warm fabric. In this class we’ll learn the basic principles of working brioche flat and in the round, and increasing and decreasing in pattern, and get started on knitting the Hey, Little Songbird pattern. Experience needed: knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing.
Materials and homework: Approximately 70 yards of worsted weight yarn and US 7 needles for swatching and practicing and 800 yards of sportweight/DK yarn and US 10 ½ needles for the stole.

Darn It – 3 hours, limit 12
In this class, we’ll discuss when bad things happen to good, well-loved knits, and how we can fix it. We’ll discuss basic repair techniques, as well as yarn structure and picking yarn for projects to make our knits last as long as possible. Experience needed: none.
Materials and homework: Please bring any handknit items that might need repair.
